Skanda Shashti is dedicated to Kartikeya (Skanda / Murugan / Subramanya) — the six-headed war-god son of Shiva-Parvati who defeated the demon Tarakasura. Observed on Shukla Shashti of every month, with the annual Aippasi Skanda Shashti (November) being the most powerful. In Tamil Nadu, the six-day Kanda Shashti festival at Tiruchendur culminates on the sixth day with the symbolic slaying of Surapadman. Especially observed for victory over difficulties, courage, and healing.

🔔 Puja Vidhi

  1. Fast from sunrise on Shashti (fruit fast typical)
  2. Perform Kartikeya puja with red flowers and vibhuti
  3. Recite Skanda Shashti Kavacham (Tamil composition)
  4. Chant "Om Saravana Bhava" 108 times
  5. Break fast in evening with satvik meal
